Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Brotman•Winter•Fried, Charlie is generally recognized as the “Number-One Public Relations Expert in Washington, D.C.” A native-born Washingtonian, Charlie is celebrating over 50 years as a combination Publicist & PR guru. Charlie is constantly called upon to provide Public Relations analysis and commentary on major issues by local and national media.
Brotman was a combination on-air-radio-TV personality and marketing director during the 1950s and 60s. In 1969, he opened Charles J. Brotman & Associates, Inc., specializing in the promotion and publicity of sports and entertainment events. In September of 1992, Brotman & Associates merged with the firm of Winter•Fried Communications to form Brotman•Winter•Fried Communications.
Brotman has served as the Presidential Inaugural Parade Announcer for the past 52 years, earning him the title of “The President’s Announcer.” He is making plans to announce, once again -- on January 20, 2009 -- his 10th new president, 14th Presidential Inaugural Parade, encompassing 52 years (1957-2009)
During his business career, Brotman has been elected into ten (10) different Halls of Fame, including The Advertising Club of Washington Hall of Fame, The Public Relations Society of America Hall of Fame and the Washington Hall of Stars at RFK Stadium.
From 1956 through 2008, Brotman has handled virtually every sports and entertainment entity to play in the Nation’s Capital. Over the years, he developed strong and close personal working relationships with the presidents and chief executives at many of Washington’s top corporations. He has worked closely with county executives, state senators and representatives and regional political leaders from the District of Columbia, and neighboring Maryland and Virginia. He has also worked closely with The White House, the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives.

President and Chief Operating Officer of Brotman•Winter•Fried Communications, Winter has been the driving force behind the company since its inception in 1982. In his role as
president, Winter oversees and manages a staff of 12 full-time public relations and advertising professionals and support staff and generally guides the overall direction of the firm and its approach to handling specific clients. He also works day-to-day on selected accounts.
Prior to assuming his present position, Winter served for 11 years as a managing partner of Winter•Fried Communications which merged, in September 1992, with the firm of Charles J. Brotman & Associates to form Brotman•Winter•Fried Communications. Winter started his career as an account executive for Brotman & Associates, which he joined just three months after graduating from American University in Spring 1977 with a degree in Journalism. While in school at American, Winter was sports editor of the school newspaper and also served as the public relations director for the school’s club football team.
A member of various local industry boards and organizations, Winter, his wife Jody, his daughter Samantha (18) and son Maury (14) reside in Vienna, Virginia.

Executive Vice President of Brotman•Winter•Fried Communications, Kenny Fried co-founded Winter-Fried Communications in 1982, where he served for 11 years as a managing partner. The firm merged with Charles J. Brotman & Associates in 1992 to form Brotman•Winter•Fried Communications.
Fried is a past Board member of the Larry King Cardiac Foundation and Washington, DC Special Olympics. He has served for the past 12 years as an adjunct professor of marketing at George Washington University, and his honors there include Educator of the Year.
Fried has overseen the Starbucks account for more than 12 years and was one of only a few non-Starbucks employees in its history to receive the Spirit Of Starbucks award from the company. Fried also received an award from BrandWeek magazine for his leadership and service on Foot Locker’s community programs. He was named by the Washington Business Journal as one of the top forty under forty in 1999.
Fried lives with his wife Stephanie, his sons Josh (13) and Will (10) in Bethesda, Maryland.

Bishop currently manages a wide range of accounts, including public relations for the two Capital Home & Garden Shows, professional boxing and Mixed Martial Arts at the Patriot Center, grand openings and marketing efforts for Robeks Fruit Smoothies and Healthy Eats, and the Mr. Wash Brushless Car Wash chain.
On the sports scene, Bishop handles the media relations for the AT&T National Golf Tournament hosted by Tiger Woods and led the publicity efforts for the region’s first Nationwide Tour event, the Melwood Prince George’s County Open. He has worked on special projects with D.C. United, the Washington Nationals and the D.C. Sports & Entertainment Commission, and handled the advertising and PR for the Kemper Open/Booz Allen Classic in the past.
Bishop joined BWF after serving as a staff assistant in the George Mason University Athletic Department Sports Information and Marketing Offices.
A native of Hershey, PA, Bishop graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor’s Degree in public administration. He resides in Annandale with his wife Raquel and three sons, Liam (10), Jonah (8) and Logan (6).

A Vice President at BWF since the company’s inception, Bohen has handled and managed dozens of restaurant projects, sports events and organizations, entertainment events and much more. This includes such high-profile clients as Kinkead’s, Brasserie Les Halles, Morton’s Steakhouse, and Taberna del Alaberdero; various aspects of the women’s tennis tour; the Marlboro Country Music Tour, for which the highlight was a project she created, coordinated and publicized for the sponsor - a major fundraiser for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in D.C., starring Bob Hope, Alabama and The Judds.
Through the years, Bohen has also worked on Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Disney on Ice productions, FIFA’s 1999 Women’s World Cup, U.S. Olympic Soccer, the US Soccer Foundation, Vidal Sassoon Hair Salon, political satirist Mark Russell, U.S. National Champion figure skater Michael Weiss, the 2003 World Figure Skating Championships, Washington’s annual Bastille Day Race and Celebration, auto racing, comedy shows, pre-season baseball and boxing.
She currently handles publicity for the Legg Mason Tennis Classic (ATP), The Washington Design Center, Fight Night, The Washington DC International Wine & Food Festival, Brasserie Les Halles, Nando’s Peri-Peri, Sister to Sister and Portugal Business Development Agency (on a project basis). She does pro bono work for Best Buddies International, the D.C. Firefighters Burn Foundation and the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF).

Director of Special Events Lisa Marie Czop joined the Brotman•Winter•Fried team in August 2006. Known for her background in event planning, Lisa Marie serves as the lead account executive on a variety of high-profile DC events such as the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walkathon and the Sister to Sister Heart Day Health Fair. Her expertise spreads into event and retail public relations, representing national and regional clients including the National Museum of Crime and Punishment, United Medical Center, Gordon Biersch Brewery and Restaurant, Foot Locker, and the Super Pet Expo. She also serves as the coordinator for both the internship program and for the BWF website.
Prior to joining the BWF team, Lisa Marie served as the Special Project/Communications Coordinator at the USO of Metropolitan Washington. A key component of that position was developing relationships with artists and logistical planning for celebrity visits and events at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Interacting with celebrities such as Adam Sandler, Ozzy Osbourne, Norah Jones, and Chris Isaak and their management teams was a routine occurrence in her position. Lisa Marie also provided publicity and logistical support for numerous high-profile events such as the “Hopes and Heroes 2004 Presidential Inauguration Ball” and the movie premiere of The Great Raid. As Communications Coordinator, she produced internal and external publications for USO-Metro and managed a volunteer base of over 250 individuals. As an example of her creative productivity, Lisa Marie organized and successfully executed a $15,000 fundraiser using only volunteer staff. The result is a standing fundraising committee which is a new financial support source for the organization at no cost in organizational resources.
A public relations graduate of the University of Rhode Island in 2004, Lisa Marie interned at Sony Record Company and experienced hands-on promotion work at WFNX Radio in Providence, Rhode Island. Currently she is a member of WISE (Women in Sports & Entertainment), a professional networking organization that connects women in the sports and sports-related events industries nationwide. Lisa Marie is also active as the fundraising and public relations chair for the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation. She currently resides in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband Andrew and a house full of animals.

Director of Social Media Mike Schaffer provides hands-on sponsorship fulfillment, public relations and marketing, services to a wide array of clients in the sports, entertainment, technology, restaurant, retail, and corporate worlds. He has managed campaigns for the Washington Nationals, Major League Soccer, McDonald’s McSoccerfest, PGA Tour, World Wrestling Entertainment and several other BWF accounts, including the innovative Kangaroo TV handset bringing DirecTV into NFL stadiums.
He helped launch a unique customer rewards program maintained completely online for California Tortilla, a regional quick-casual restaurant. His diverse projects consist of travel shows, celebrity comedy contests, night clubs, cosmic bowling alleys, and authors. On the forefront of new media, Mike’s tips for working with bloggers were published in PRWeek.
Prior to joining BWF, Schaffer served as station manager and sports director at WICB-FM in Ithaca, NY and worked at WJZ-TV, Baltimore’s CBS affiliate. During a stint with zcomm, he oversaw national radio promotions for companies such as Acuvue and M&Ms.
Schaffer joined Brotman•Winter•Fried in 2003 and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College in Sports Information and Communication. A native of Columbia, MD, he currently lives in Washington, DC.

Senior Account Executive Matt Herring started at Brotman•Winter•Fried Communications in August 2007, and serves primarily as the account manager for Transformational Defense Industries. Herring is responsible for developing and executing nation-wide marketing and public relations campaigns for TDI throughout the United States.
Herring’s responsibilities also include helping to manage and assist with the firm’s sports clients, including McDonald’s McSoccerFest, the Washington Nationals, D.C. United, and professional Mixed Martial Arts. Non-sport accounts include Fresh City, Africa Rising, and Gesher Jewish Day School.
A native of Texas, Herring graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor Degree in Marketing. While attending Texas State, Herring owned Herring’s Construction, his own college construction company. Herring gained his construction experience from working for his uncle’s construction company called Handyman Connection.
Prior to joining Brotman•Winter•Fried Communications, Herring worked in the sports industry for BKG Golf as a Marketing Coordinator. As a marketing coordinator, Herring oversaw their global marketing campaigns as well as their domestic marketing operations for BKG Golf. His sports background also includes working as a trainer at the Baseball Academy of Texas, and is currently a Select Soccer trainer and conditioning coach in Northern Virginia. Herring currently lives in Arlington, Virginia.

Senior Account Executive Shaun May is one of the agency’s primary sports publicists. On a day-to-day basis, May handles Octagon Sports Marketing and the EagleBank Bowl and during the course of the year handles the Legg Mason Tennis Tournament, D.C. United, the Washington Nationals, the Melwood Open and Tiger Woods' PGA Tour event, the AT&T National. Non-sports accounts include Event Innovation and Fresh City.
Prior to joining Brotman•Winter•Fried May, spent nearly 20 years working in sports pr, marketing and event management with two professional sports leagues and two universities.
Just prior to joining BWF, May served as the Director of Public Relations for Major League Lacrosse (MLL). Other stops include Assistant Athletic Director at American University, Director of Public Relations for the Women’s United Soccer Association, Director of Communications at the University of Pennsylvania and Sports Information Director for the United States Coast Guard Academy.
May graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Economics. While at URI he worked for the school newspaper, student radio station and in the athletic department. He later earned a master’s degree from the University of Connecticut (athletic administration).
May is a member of the Advisory Board for the Sport Business Management Program at Manhattanville College. He and his wife, Victoria, his daughter Devon (5) and son Trevor (1) reside in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Account Executive Whitney Stringer specializes in grassroots initiatives. Her accounts include the Sister-to-Sister Foundation, United Medical Center and Super Pet Expo, among others.
Prior to joining BWF, Stringer worked for food industry goliath Oscar Mayer, in the highly sought position of “Hotdogger,” for the famed Wienermobile. In this role she managed experiential marketing tasks and led PR campaigns in over 30 markets during a nationwide tour. Stringer also led a team of brand ambassadors promoting both new and established products for Miller Brewing Co. in central Pennsylvania.
A graduate of Penn State University, Stringer earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts & Science. A native of State College, PA, Stringer currently resides in Washington, DC.
