Mad Fox Brewing Company Honors Scotland’s Favorite Son, Poet Robbie Burns, with January 25 Dinner

Mon, 2012-01-16

FALLS CHURCH, VA – Holiday withdrawal never dampens the spirits of the award-winning Mad Fox Brewing Company, known in Northern Virginia for their unique house-crafted brew, pub experience.  They’ve created their very own Robbie Burns Night, a celebration of the life and poetry of Robbie Burns, Scotland’s Favorite Poet, with a five-course beer dinner on the 253rd anniversary of his birth, January 25, 2012.

The “Robbie Burns Dinner” is Mad Fox’s unique take on this global tradition. Guests can expect a delightful meal created by Executive Chef Russel Cunningham and masterfully accompanied by some of the country’s best craft-brewed beer. The meal is an interpretation of traditional Scottish cuisine with a modern twist – an appetizer of haggis with a potato and parsnip puree, followed by Scottish salmon or “Loch Duart,” a fried prosciutto and stilton salad, grilled leg of lamb, and finished with chocolate crannachan (bittersweet chocolate and cream layered with Scottish oats and drizzled with whiskied honey). A bagpiper will provide the perfect dash of ambiance to this savory meal.

Because Mad Fox is known for their award-winning libations, each course of this meal includes an original drink-pairing. In order of appearance, Mad Fox has cast their Cask “80 Shilling Scottish Ale, the farm-house style Saison, the citrusy Orange Whip IPA, “100 Batch” Black Ale and Wee Heavy, a strong Scotch ale, as the featured drink roles for the Burns Dinner.

Burns, also known as “The Bard,” is best known for his poetic song Auld Lang Syne, the popular tune played annually at New Year’s celebrations.  An early pioneer of the Romantic Movement, his poetry and lyrics gave him wide renown as the national poet of Scotland. Following his death in 1796, Burns’ friends began honoring his passing every year with a traditional Scottish meal including haggis, Scotch whisky and the reciting of Burns’ poetry. The Burns Supper was born from this, and is now celebrated by Scottish societies and organizations around the world, generally around the time of the poet’s birthday.

The Robbie Burns Dinner is $65 per person, all inclusive. To reserve your party, please visit or contact Mad Fox Brewing Company at or call 703.942.6840. The restaurant is centrally located between the East Falls Church and West Falls Church Metro Stations and offers plenty of free parking in the back lot or parking facility.

Located in the City of Falls Church at 444 West Broad Street, the Mad Fox Brewing Company brews all their beer in-house in their 15-barrel Premier Stainless brewing system, with CEO and Executive Brewer Bill Madden supervising the production. In 2011, two Mad Fox brews brought home medals at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver.  In addition to the seven to ten beers on tap, Mad Fox rotates a seasonal selection of German, English, Belgian and American beers.
